How to Extend the Lifespan of Your Furniture
High-quality furniture needs proper care to ensure it lasts longer. Here are some essential tips on how to maintain your furniture and extend its lifespan:
Wood and Veneer Care
Wood and veneer are sensitive to light. In the first 6-8 weeks, avoid placing any items on the surface for extended periods to prevent permanent marks. New furniture may take some time to absorb the light and blend in with the surrounding decor.
Water should be used sparingly and only with a damp cloth. After wiping with a damp cloth, be sure to dry the surface with a clean dry cloth.
Wood and veneer surfaces are highly sensitive to liquids, so it’s important to immediately wipe off any spills.
Marble Care
Marble surfaces have many tiny pores that need careful protection. If any liquid splashes on the surface, it should be wiped off immediately to prevent stains.
Before shipping, we apply a waterproof layer to protect the marble surface from liquid penetration. Oily liquids are more likely to penetrate the marble surface than water-based liquids. This waterproof layer offers temporary protection, but if not wiped off promptly, liquid can still seep in. Marble is also highly sensitive to heat and impact, which could cause cracking. To protect the surface, always use coasters for drinks and mats for heavy or sharp objects.
When cleaning, use a soft cloth that is neutral in color. Dampen it with warm water, wring it out, and gently wipe the surface. For thorough cleaning, use a neutral soap like soap flakes. Avoid using acidic or alkaline products as they can damage the surface.
Upholstered Furniture
If possible, regularly rotate cushions and seat pads. Fluff cushions frequently to ensure the foam and down inside remain fluffy. Regularly check the legs of your furniture to ensure they are securely fastened.
Fabric Upholstery
Keep fabrics out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.
For cleaning, use a professional fabric cleaner, but always test it on an inconspicuous area first to ensure it does not damage the fabric color. Regular vacuuming is important to maintain cleanliness. During wet seasons, to avoid moisture damage, use a dehumidifier indoors or blow-dry the sofa when there is no rain to eliminate any dampness in the fabric.
At least once a week, beat the seat and back cushions to ensure they are properly aired. This helps maintain the elasticity of the foam and the fluffiness of the down, preventing deformation and extending their lifespan.
Leather Care
Keep leather furniture out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent fading.
For everyday cleaning, use a dry, soft cloth. If necessary, dampen a soft cloth with soapy water, wring it out, and gently wipe or rub the surface.
When vacuuming, use a soft-bristle attachment to avoid damaging the leather surface.
Use professional leather care products and clean sofas and chairs 2-3 times a year to maintain their condition.
